Norm Johnson
CEO
The YMCA of the Okobojis has been under Norm's leadership since August of 2006. Norm, is known locally as the man behind Boot Camp, the ever popular fitness class. Norm's passion for the YMCA is evident not only in his leadership of the YMCA of the Okobojis, but he is also faculty for the YMCA of the USA in Health and Fitness with personal training as an area of emphasis.
 

 

MeShell Cornett
Association Finance Director
A native of Southern California, then migrating to Australia for twenty years, MeShell returns to the United States with many experiences and certifications in the beauty industry. Her varied skills enable her to stay on top of the YMCA’s finance world, If you haven’t attended her Water Aerobics Class then you’re missing out on a great exercise and some laughs. Don’t forget to ask her ‘what does a koala do? And you wont be disappointed.

   

 

Sonja Hamm
Development Director
Sonja and her family have just recently returned to the Iowa Great Lakes after being in Arizona for 15 years.  Sonja has her Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of South Dakota and most recently has been the Federal Programs Director/Grants Manager for Page Unified School District.  She is excited to be a part of the YMCA Team and looks forward to playing a role in supporting the Y’s focus on Youth Development, Healthy Living, and Social Responsibility.    

Andrew Fisher
Program Operations Director
Andrew is entering his 5th year with the Bedell Family YMCA. Andrew, is currently the Program Operations Director overseeing many program areas including Kinship, Youth/Adult sports, Aquatics, Wellness and Fitness, and Before and After School Childcare.  He is a 2007 graduate of William Penn University and originally from Blakesburg, Iowa.



Tyler Reiter
Physical Coordinator
Tyler is in his 1st year at the Bedell Family YMCA serving as the Physical Coordinator, where he works extensively with youth/adult sports and fitness. Tyler is a 2010 graduate of Augsburg College in Minneapolis, MN. Tyler received his degree at Augsburg in the field of Exercise Science as well as being a 4 year starter on the Auggies football team. Tyler is originally from   Jackson, MN.




Brooke Tomlinson
School Age Program Director
Brooke has always been a Northwest Iowa girl. She currently lives in the Spirit Lake area and has worked for the Bedell Family YMCA for over a year before becoming our School A ge Director.  Brooke worked in the school aged program and also as an assistant day camp director out at Camp Foster. She has developed amazing relationships with kids, families, and YMCA staff, and loves working with and helping them out in any way possible.  Brooke is a great example of a person who puts the YMCA mission and values into place both professionally and personally. She is a 2009 graduate of Buena Vista University-B.A. in Business Management with a Minor in Psychology. She is very passionate and dedicated to her job and helping others, and looks forward to growing relationships within the Lakes Area Community.

 


Andy Wolf
Property Manager
Andy and his family recently moved to the Lakes Region from Des Moines.  He brings 3 years of experience as a Property Manager for North Sentral Kossuth School Districts.  Andy is originally from Bancroft, IA so he is familiar with this area.  He is an avid outdoorsman, so when he's not at the Y, he'll be hunting or fishing.  He also enjoys spending time with his wife, Amber and their son Lincoln. The Y is keeping Andy extremely busy, but make sure you stop and introduce yourself.  We are lucky to have him be a part of our Y Team!

MeganMegan Slyman
Communications Director
Megan is new to the Bedell YMCA
staff as well as to the area. She
graduated from Drake University
with a Bachelors Degree in Journalism
 and Mass Communication. She is
originally from Southern Missouri and
loves to travel. She studied abroad in Italy during college and has
a passion for new adventures. She is thrilled to join the Y family
and be a part of the community! Be sure to pick up one of the many
flyers she will be creating!





Annie

Annie Downing
Kinship Coordinator
Annie was born and raised in Spirit Lake and her family just recently returned to the area after living near Cedar Rapids for the past five years.  Annie has a Master’s degree in Social Work and most recently has been a School/Community Liaison in the Lisbon Community School District.  She looks forward to being part of the Kinship Program and the ability to connect young people with positive adult role models.  



 

Brent O'Hara
Member Services Director
A Spencer native; Brent and his wife Renee, have returned to the Lakes Region after living in Colorado for the past five years. Upon completion of an internship with the Sioux Falls Stampede hockey team, he received a Bachelor's degree in Mass Communications from the University of South Dakota in 2005. Brent also received his Bachelor's degree in Sports and Exercise Science with an emphasis in K-12 Physical Education from the University of Northern Colorado in 2010. He has coached various sports including basketball and soccer. Brent is very excited to be part of the YMCA and its great staff.
